Thailand Surpasses 10 Million Foreign Tourists, Generating over 500 Billion Baht in 2022
The Tourism and Sports Ministry of Thailand reported that as of Sunday, over 10.7 million foreign tourists had visited the country in 2022, generating over 518 billion baht in revenue.
This represents a significant increase from the previous year, when there were over 28 million foreign arrivals, but still falls short of the ministry's goal of attracting 40 million visitors and earning 3 trillion baht in income this year.
Chinese tourists made up the largest group of foreign visitors, with over 2 million having traveled to Thailand so far this year.
Malaysia was the second-largest source of foreign tourists, with 1.39 million visitors, followed by Russia with 695,624, South Korea with 619,186, and India with 546,935.
Despite the strong start to the year, the ministry acknowledged that reaching its targets for 2022 would be a challenge due to ongoing travel restrictions and other pandemic-related issues.
However, the ministry remains optimistic and continues to promote Thailand as a popular tourist destination to both domestic and international travelers.
In 2021, Thailand welcomed over 28 million foreign tourists, who contributed 1.2 trillion baht to the economy.
The ministry aims to return to these pre-pandemic levels of tourism and revenue this year.
