Thai Cabinet Allocates 1.8 Billion Baht for R12 Highway Upgrade in Laos: Shorter Journey to Vietnamese Border and Enhanced Logistics
The Thai cabinet has allocated 1.8 billion baht to help Laos maintain and improve the R12 highway.
This road runs from Thakhek, Laos, to the Vietnamese border, covering a distance of 147km and forming part of the Asian Highway.
The funding will reduce travel time between Nakhon Phanom province in Thailand and Quang Binh province in Vietnam.
Kaenika announced that funds from the project will be used to improve infrastructure along the R12 highway in Thailand, including cargo terminals, storage facilities, public utilities, drainage systems, and tourist attractions.
The R12 highway will improve road communication and logistics between Thailand and neighboring countries, reducing transit time from ten to four hours and customs procedures from five to two checkpoints.
This is the shortest route along the East-West Economic Corridor.
After maintenance works are completed, it is expected that the amount of goods transported from Nakhon Phanom into Laos via R12 will increase by approximately 50%.
