Chiang Mai Zoo's Renovated Aquarium Reopens: A Mountain Top Tourist Attraction with Global Standards and Affordable Admission Fees
Chiang Mai Zoo's aquarium has reopened after a 29-million-baht renovation.
The first aquarium in Thailand, located on a mountain, is now expected to attract more visitors due to the upgrades.
Zoo director Wuthichai Muangman announced the reopening on April 1, following the allocation of funds from the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand's director-general Attapon Srihayrun.
The theme of the renovated aquarium is environmental protection, and Mr. Attapon anticipates a 10% increase in income from admission fees.
The Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium reopened after renovations and is now a popular tourist attraction due to being the first in the country to bring the sea to a mountain and meeting global standards.
It's also an affordable learning center for kids and youths, with admission fees being lower than similar aquariums in other countries.
Thai adults pay 300 baht, Thai children pay 175 baht, adult foreigners pay 640 baht, and foreign children pay 375 baht.
The Zoological Park Organization (ZPO) will provide an additional one-million-baht budget for the aquarium to source more marine species.
The Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium is not only a tourist attraction and learning center but also serves as a research and conservation center, according to Mr. Attapon.
Narutat Chareonsedtasin, CEO of Marine Scape (Thailand), the company managing the aquarium, mentioned that it is home to the world's longest underwater tunnel, which is 133 meters long.
The aquarium showcases over 80 river species from the Mekong River Basin and Chao Phraya Basin.
