6.3 Magnitude Earthquake in Western Japan: No Tsunami or Damage Reported
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred off the coast of southwestern Japan on Wednesday night, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter of the quake was located in a channel that separates the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, approximately 18 kilometers (11 miles) west of Uwajima.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of around 25 kilometers.
Despite the relatively strong magnitude, no tsunami warnings were issued, and there were no initial reports of damage or injuries.
The USGS provided these details about the earthquake, which struck at approximately 10:11 p.m. local time.
The location and depth of the earthquake suggest that it may have caused some localized ground shaking, but the lack of damage reports and tsunami warnings indicate that its impact was likely limited.
